Eligible Criteria

The UNU Junior Fellows Internship program welcomes applications from highly qualified candidates who meet the following criteria:

  • Citizenship: Be a citizen of any UN member state.
  • Educational Background: Possess a graduate degree (Master’s or PhD) or be in the final stages of your studies.
  • Academic Excellence: Demonstrate a strong academic record with a focus on fields relevant to UNU’s research areas (e.g., environment, governance, peace and security, etc.).
  • Work Experience (Optional): Prior professional experience related to the UN’s work is a plus but not mandatory.
  • has advanced computer skills: sound, hands-on, knowledge of MS Office applications (familiarity with ICT tools and high level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel are desirable);
  • has a demonstrated interest in the work of the United Nations and more specifically, in the work of the United Nations University.
  • Language Skills: Fluency in English is essential for effective communication within the program. IELTS or TOEFL is not required if the candidate has completed a previous degree from an English Medium Institute.
