Eligibility Criteria Of The Research Scholarship:
There are two main eligibility requirements:
- Admission to a Graduate Research Degree: You must first apply for and be admitted to a Master’s by Research or PhD program at the University of Melbourne. If selected, you will be automatically considered for the scholarship.
- Academic Merit and Research Potential:
- Domestic students: All admitted students are automatically considered for a Research Training Program (RTP) Scholarship (fee offset only).
- International students: Compete for a limited number of Melbourne Research Scholarships (MRS) that offer a stipend along with the fee offset. Selection is based on academic merit in your previous degree and your research potential in your chosen field.
- There is no citizenship restriction Both domestic and international students can apply.

- Provides a living allowance of $37,000 per year (2024 rate) for up to two years for a Master’s degree or up to 3.5 years for a PhD. This helps cover living expenses while you complete your research studies.
